Summer Kick-Off Fun Run 1995 Summary

The Fourth Annual Summer Kick-Off Fun Run was held at Clear Creek High School in League City on June 3, 1995. To the surprise of no one, Jeff Lewis was the men's winner in 16:14. Jeff has won all the Summer Kick-Off runs except in 1993 when his brother, Greg, upheld the family honor. Kevin Landry and Inder Sehgal made the men's 30-39 age group finish exciting with times of 16:41 and 16:42, taking second and third overall honors.

Stacy Poole, La Marque High School track standout, was the women's winner with a course record 18:36. She graduated this year and will be attending University of Texas-San Antonio on a full track scholarship next fall.

Proving that age is no barrier to good performance, Paul Daniels was the winner of the new men's masters division (age 40 and over) with an excellent 17:21. Well-known area runner and triathlete, Jana Landry, took the women's masters and second place overall with a 20:57. Susan Brown, winner of the first Kick-Off run was third overall. Emphasizing the point that age isn't a barrier were the first over 70 winners, Louis Ciaccio and Theresa Fritz. Competition was so strong that Olan Langham, age 79, had to settle for fourth in his age group.

Speed wasn't the only way to win at the Summer Kick-Off Fun Run. Suzanne Daly won the luxury San Luis Resort weekend-for-two grand prize drawing.

Over 460 participants entered the Summer Kick-Off Run this year. The field included 261 5K run finishers, 30 Kid's K run finishers, and a large enthusiastic group of 3K walkers. The participants were provided with a wide range of refreshments after the exercise.

The Summer Kick-Off Run is in memory of James Glenn, a Clear Creek High School student and athlete who died while attending and playing football at Texas A&M. Benefits from the Summer Kick-Off Run are used to provide student scholarships through the James Glenn Memorial Fund. This year a $1000 scholarship was awarded to Michael Ferfon, outstanding Clear Creek High School scholar and athlete.

Run sponsors are St. John Sports Medicine Clinic, Harrisburg Bank, Landry Chiropractic, Esteban's Cafe and Cantina, GTE, Hall's Insurance, Star Toyota, Safari Animal Care Centers, and Sam and Susan Juliano.
